Harvey Bay Triathlon

Good luck to Felicity Abram who is competing in the Harvey Bay Tri!

On Sunday the 1st of May 2011 a field of up to 800 individuals and 150 teams will enjoy a safe, fair, and fun triathlon experience.

Reflecting the participatory nature of the sport a series of random draws were conducted, the first with a 2XU HBT trisuit as a prize from the first 100 entrants, then another suit in a second draw from the first 200 entrants (yes you could have won two!). Then on race day a series of draws will take place with the ultimate prize being a shiny new Azzurri Chrono Elite bicycle.

Luke Harrop Triathlon

Good luck to the following members of Fitnance who are competing in the Luke Harrop Tri; Tiffany Sheerin, Matt Sheerin, Kathy Turner, Gary Turner, Drew Jennings, Sandra Jennings, Drew Standish, Sarah Richmond, Russ Benyon, Matti Matt, Kristy Harnett, Luke Stafford, and Mark Bradford.

Located at the home of the 2009 World Championships Final, Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke Harrop Memorial is one of the best Sprint course races going around. This event, which also doubles as the Series Final race of the 2010/11 Gatorade Queensland Triathlon Series, is definitely a must do on the USM EVENTS Calendar.

Not only is the location ideal to inspire you through the beautiful course, the atmosphere will be pumped up as the competiton heats up. For competitors who have participated in three, four, five or even six races of the series, in the majority of categories, the top three Series place getters will be determined by the outcome of the final race on the 1st May. Furthermore, to celebrate another fantastic season, there will be free entertainment, the triathlon based expo open on Saturday and Sunday and big names in triathlon, racing in Luke Harrop's honour.

In 2002, one of Australia’s most promising triathletes, Luke Harrop was tragically killed whilst on a training ride on the Gold Coast. A keen and dedicated sportsman, Luke was extremely popular within the Gold Coast community, and to honour Luke the Gold Coast Triathlon now carries his name. Luke's sister and Olympic Triathlon medalist, Lorreta Harrop, will be on show racing as part of a team at this year's Gold Coast Triathlon - Luke Harrop Memorial.

Sporting Quotes

People don't play sports because its fun. Ask any athlete, most of them hate it, but they couldn't imagine their life with out it. Its part of them, the love/hate relationship. Its what they live for. They live for the practices, parties, cheers, long bus rides, invitationals, countless pairs of different types of shoes, water, Gatorade, & coaches you hate but appreciate. They live for the way it feels when they beat the other team, and knowing those two extra sprints they ran in practice were worth it. They live for the way they become a family with their team, they live for the countless songs they sing in their head while training all those hours. They live for the competition, they live for the friends, the practices, the memories, the pain, its who they are. It's who we are.

Ride to conquer cancer

Ride to Conquer Cancer – Jonie Moore

As a cyclist I’m constantly looking for new challenges which include rides to raise money for particular causes. This year I’ve decided to sign up for the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer in which I have to raise $2500. This ride is a two day event where riders cycle 100km per day throughout Queensland’s Somerset region. The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer is for anyone who wants to challenge themselves for a great cause. All you need is motivation, a bike and a helmet. The money raised in this challenge will benefit the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, one of the largest research institutes in Australia and across the southern hemisphere. Anyone who enters this ride or donates money to its participants moves us closer to a cancer free tomorrow. If you’re interested in participating in this ride or in making a donation visit

Jonie Moore

Hey guys, I’m Jonie, I’m a Prac student at Fitnance in my final year of my Human Movements degree with QUT and can’t wait to finally work and use some of my skills. I graduated from high school a lifetime ago and have worked as a dental nurse ever since until realising my passion for sport and exercise. I’m hoping to eventually own my own Exercise Physiology business focusing on motivation and educating clients on the importance of good exercise and nutrition habits to prevent chronic disease. I compete in Cycling and Triathlon which I love training for even though it leaves me exhausted by Sunday. I love to surf (or what I call surfing) and could spend hours out there attempting not to nose dive the next wave.

Sherwood Forest Run.

Try this run on a Saturday Morning.Every Saturday morning at 7AM, and everybody is welcome.

We have kids as young as 6yo, taking on the 2km, and some regulars, are in the 70+yo group, so there is sure to be somebody of your pace and ability.

Please arrive at least 15minutes before this time to warm up and have your name recorded.

What distances do you run?
Its, your choice, 2km, 4km and 6km, on an out and back course, with km marks in white paint on the road.(1km/5km, 2km/4km, etc)

Yes, we know that your GPS will register about 5.85km to 5.9km for the 6km, but who cares, its the same distance every week, and we have been running the same course since 1982!

How much does it cost?
$2-00/week, which we donate to charity, and its an 'honorary system', where you put the $2-00 in the jar, on the drinks table.

Before the run, also record your name at the 'Official Table', and as you cross the finish line, please remember the time called out to you, and go back to the table and ensure it is recorded.

You are welcome to stay on after the race, when we have the "Call of the Card", which occurs at about 7-40AM, when all runners are formally acknowledged.

Where does it start?
At 'The Sherwood Forest Park" carpark, in Jolimont St, Sherwood
