Running kinematics study

The International Society of Biomechanics in Sports published in 2009 a study comparing elite to national-standard 1500m runners and their running biomechanics and efficiency.

They found,
'In conclusion, elite runners may utilize elastic energy more effectively, which, in combination with minimum concentric work, leads to improvements in their running performance.'
