Physical Activity for Older People - East Brisbane

Steve Nance will be presenting a workshop on physical activity for older people.

Steve's qualifications include a Bachelor of Education (PE) from Sydney University and a Master of Education from the University of Texas. He also brings a wealth of sporting knowledge and expertise to his workshops from his 20-year involvement in the sport and recreation sector. Steve has experience in providing strength and conditioning for major international sporting clubs around the world including the Australian Wallabies, Brisbane Broncos, Leeds-Fulham Football Club and the North Queensland Cowboys.

It will be a good experience to learn from Steve as he is a great communicator and will pass on his wide variety of experience to promote physical activity within the older adult population.

Physical Activity for Older People - East Brisbane

There are many health and lifestyle benefits of physical activity for older adults. People with an active lifestyle feel healthier and have an improved sense of wellbeing. Benefits can include reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, colon cancer and diabetes. Activity does not need to be strenuous to achieve health benefits. This workshop explores types of suitable exercises, physiological changes that occur with ageing along with simple programs and strategies for keeping active.

Steve Nance Profile


STEVE NANCE

Steve Nance arrived at Headingley Carnegie during the 2008-09 season as the club's new Performance Director to work with Director of Rugby Andy Key and Head Coach Neil Back. An important part of his role at the club will be to work with Leeds Metropolitan University to maximise the expertise and state-of-the-art resources at the Carnegie faculty to help improve the Leeds Carnegie squad.
Steve studied initially at the University of Sydney before completing his Masters at the University of Texas. He has also been the author of numerous publications and lectures internationally. Steve has previously worked with football with Fulham FC, Rugby Union with Queensland Reds and Clermont Ferrand in France, in Rugby League with Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys, and also in hockey, rowing and triathlon.
He was also part of the Australian coaching team that led the Wallabies to success in the 1999 World Cup in Wales. As well as winning the World Cup in 1999 during Nance's time with the Wallabies between 1998 ad 2000, they also won the Bledisloe Cup, Cook Cup, Mandela Cup and Tri-Nations. He was part of the Brisbane Broncos organisation who won three NRL titles in Australian Rugby League and worked with Clermont Ferrand in France, getting to the finals of The French Championship in 2001.

Steve Nance: Founder of Fitnance


Steve Nance, who is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading fitness and performance consultants, developed the company.

Steve’s professional background includes working as the performance consultant to the Brisbane Broncos, Fulham Football Club in England, lecturing at QUT in Human Movement Studies and working with secondary schools such as Ipswich Grammar and John Paul College. He was also in charge of the health and fitness for the World Cup winning Wallabies side under captain John Eales and coach Rod Macqueen. Steve is currently Performance Director for Leeds Rugby in the UK and is returning to Brisbane in 2010.
