There are 4 race distances, from the 7km Spartan Sprint to the 42km Ultra Beast!

Next Thursday the 24th of January, King George Square will host a Spartan 300 burpee challenge.
All participants receive a Spartan Race (t-shirt and wrist band). All those still standing at 300 receive prizes from our sponsors, BSc, IronEdge and Inov-8, and free entry into one Spartan Race Australia event of their choosing in 2013.

Check out the Facebook page for more details.

Rainbow Beach Triathlon

Rainbow Beach Triathlon

The Rainbow Beach Triathlon provides triathletes the opportunity to race an Olympic distance triathlon over 2 days. This year, it was held on 25th and 26th August. It attracted many active athletes who wanted to compete in their own. Simon Lyell from Fitnance did a really good job that he finished in 5th place in his age category, and in 19th place in overall. Well done to all the competitors and we will see better results next year!

Fitness Myth: A sports drink is a must have during a workout?

Proper hydration is essential during a workout however unless you are exercising at a high intensity for greater than 90 minutes water, rather than sports drinks, are the go. Sports drinks supply additional calories so they are well suited to continual bouts of exercise where the body is burning up calories. During normal training it is not necessary to replace electrolytes such as sodium and potassium as it is unlikely that these stores will be completely depleted. One occasion however, where electrolytes are important, is marathon events in extreme conditions where it may be necessary to add electrolytes to the mix.
