Martin Cordwell

G’day!
My name is Martin Cordwell and I am a 23 year old Clinical Exercise Physiologist student currently in my 4th year of study at QUT University. Fitnance is my first prac placement in which I need to complete 100 hours of healthy population screening and exercise prescription. Fitnance is an amazing place and gym. Not only does this gym get people fit, healthy and provide guidance to achieve any level of goal, it prides itself on getting the best out of everyone who comes through their doors. The staff members really do care about their clients, and it is a credit to their hard work.
My sport is Rugby League in which I have been playing for 17 years. I currently play for the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles in the QLD Cup. I have a passion for any sport, and respect anyone who gives their all to what they love to do. I want to see people get results and this is my motivation; whether it is making it as a professional athlete, decreasing their marathon time by 10 minutes, or even just fitting into that dream dress, I am committed to making a difference.
Come into Fitnance and make your dreams come true. I couldn’t recommend a better place!

Till I see you in here, have a good one!

Martin Cordwell

I am finishing my 3rd year QUT student, studying Clinical Exercise Physiology. I'm very interested in physical rehabilitation, strength and endurance training. My primary sporting interest is boxing, which I am allowed to undertake during my first prac experience here at Fitnance. I heard excellent things about Fitnance gym, that it has expert staff, quality equipment, and impressive exercise programs. I undertook my prac at Fitnance in hoping to furthur my skills in strength training, cardio, flexibility, sport, and rehabilitation as I am hoping to become an accredited Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist. I am learning many new things at Fitnance and thoroughly enjoying my time here.

Ben Singh

I am a 4th year Practicum student from QUT studying Clinical Exercise Physiology. I chose to complete my Practicum at Fitnance because many students I have spoken who completed their Pracs here speak highly of the site and really enjoyed their time here and were provided with an opportunity to work with a range of different clients. My background is predominantly resistance training based because this is the type of training I most enjoy learning about and participating in. After graduating from this degree I hope to follow a career in strength and conditioning or as an exercise physiology. I look forward to my time at Fitnance and I hope to learn a lot from the team here as well and contributing as much as I can.

HI Everyone!

My name is Emma Toms, I am a student from QUT and I am Currently studying Clinical Exercise Physiology and i love it! After Studying for four years i have found that our bodies are fascinating so i am thinking i want to venture into studying cardiac science Investigations or cardiac rehabilitation. Having spent the majority of my life playing every sport imaginable i always knew i wanted to pursue a career in health and fitness and learn more about the way our bodies work and how to make them healthier. My background is mainly playing, competing and training others in hockey and touch football and i love boxing and running. I currently work as a trainer mainly running boot camps for women as well as private PT sessions, i am also training to become a clinical Pilate's instructor. With my background in sports and fitness, i found that Fitnance would be a great place to further my skills and knowledge as well as meeting a huge dynamic of different people and learning about how i can help them increase fitness, strength and endurance.

Bec Edwards QUT Prac Student

Hi my name is Bec Edwards,
I am a prac student from QUT, enrolled in the exercise science degree.
When I left school I wasn't completely sure of the career path I was going to take, however was always interested in fitness. Shortly down the track I realised I wanted to persue a career with athletes and helping their injuries through strength and rehabilitation. I would like to continue my studies with physiotherapy in the future. My other qualifications are cert 3 and 4 in fitness (through fitnance) when i was in year 12 via correspondance, cert 4 in massage (current job). I am a middle distant runner who competes up to 5000m in cross country season and 1500m/3000m during track season. It would be great to compete internationally, however have realised its not all about the hard work and training you put in, but been able to stay uninjured. It is through my experience with a major injury that has made me realise how important strength exercises/ conditioning is for a particular sports. Im excited to be doing my prac at Fitnance because it will allow me to gain experience with a wide variety of people, and hopefully gain knowledge on other sports and their conditioning techniques.

Chris Watson

Hi, my name is Chris and I’m currently in my 5th year at QUT completing a dual degree of Podiatry/Human Movements. Why the dual degree you may ask? Well when I was in grade 12 at school looking through the QTAC book podiatry caught my attention. Below the podiatry course was the dual degree and, as I’ve always been involved in sport, the Human Movements side really appealed to me.

I’ve been involved in sport my whole life. My passion really lies with Track and Field however. I started Little Athletics at age 6 and have continued to compete until just recently after having to undergo surgery in an attempt to correct an injury caused by running. Since 2004 my event has been the 400m hurdles. I have represented Queensland at schools and open nationals as well as representing Australia at the 2004 Youth Olympic Festival.

My goal whilst here on prac at Fitnance is to absorb as much knowledge and practical experience which will undoubtedly help me in the future.

In two weeks I am finished university and am off overseas for a while to pursue my crazy childhood dreams of dive instructing, teaching English and working in a zoo in Borneo. I enjoy the rehabilitation side of my degree as well as the personal contact with clients. In my future I see the outdoors, the tropics, laughter, and health… Time will no doubt tell.
